The heart behind Heart of a Champion

Kelly Clayton Amerson

Kelly Clayton Amerson was an advocate and supporter for her fellow educators. She had a passion for young people and delighted in seeing her students succeed.

After she passed, Kelly’s friends and family wanted to give a scholarship in her name to benefit the graduating seniors of McNairy County. What began as The Heart of a Champion Softball Tournament in 2015, has now become a 501c3 non-profit organization. It is through fundraising events and sponsorships that Heart of a Champion is able to successfully carry on Kelly’s legacy.

In addition to giving away multiple scholarships for college and trade school every year, Heart of a Champion also awards multiple Teacher Grants and School Improvement Grants each year. Recently, Heart of a Champion was able to expand its efforts and give back to the community in many different areas of need. In nine short years, God has blessed the legacy of Kelly Clayton Amerson, by allowing Heart of a Champion to award over $250,000 to seniors, teachers, schools, and now people throughout the communities of McNairy County. The Heart of a Champion Organization plans to continue growing and supporting McNairy County teachers, students, schools, and communities for many years to come.
